Before we continue with the same old rags to riches
story-line, first let me tell why Have a Link was created.
Before
creating the directory I started a business teaching computer applications,
frustrated and annoyed by some of the national directories, in that to reach my
target market I had to advertise in two separate publications, resulting in
what I considered to be extortionate fees. I decided to create my own business
directory for businesses based in Greater Manchester.
The objective from
the outset was to create a local directory that had no boundary, one that
focused on Greater Manchester, and although other directories existed they all
seemed to miss the point that Greater Manchester consisted of ten districts,
and these should not be restricted to Manchester North, South and Central or
restricted to single towns or districts. Thereby creating a local directory
that gave the business and the client opportunities to source work/trade from a
wider area.
This is best explained as follows.
Almost all
businesses will welcome clients from areas outside their particular district,
at the same time if a prospective client can't find a suitable business within
their own district they will most certainly look elsewhere, Have a Link offers
this opportunity to both the client and the business owner, providing that all
important link between the business, the client and the
Internet.

Over the years things have changed, in the early days
most businesses simply had websites because their competitors did. But the most
important issue now is being found, and appearing on the first page of search
engine results is crucial . Therefore being found on the Internet is now big
business, everyone is obsessed with being listed on search engines. Search
Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a phrase that businesses are becoming more aware
of, Pay Per Click Advertising is also popular but becoming much more expensive

offer free listings, we no longer offer free listings on our directory as these
are not effective, over the years we have come to realise that simply listing
Business Names and Telephone Numbers is just a waste of time, why? because all
we would be doing is creating something that already exists. The only people
who react to this type of listing are the companies who are looking to sell you
something. We believe in providing much more than just a Name, Address and
Telephone Number, because that's what the client wants, we also list quality
not quantity, it is in the interest of the business and the potential client,
not to have to wade through endless lists of names and addresses, that's why we
are only listing a maximum of 5 to 7 businesses per category for each
district.
